Publikacja Gaudium et spes. Sobór Watykański II o relacji Kościoła do świata stanowi kompleksowe opracowanie soborowej Konstytucji duszpasterskiej o Kościele w świecie współczesnym, ukazujące jej genezę, strukturę, główne idee oraz znaczenie dla współczesnej teologii i życia Kościoła. Autorzy przedstawiają szeroki kontekst historyczno-teologiczny poprzedzający Vaticanum II, analizując ewolucję chrześcijańskiego spojrzenia na świat, kulturę i nowoczesność. Szczegółowo rekonstruują proces powstawania dokumentu – od pierwszych schematów, przez debaty soborowe, aż po ostateczną redakcję tekstu – w oparciu o bogate materiały źródłowe. Książka analizuje kluczowe idee Gaudium et spes: solidarność Kościoła z całą rodziną ludzką, dialog ze światem, metodologię „czytania znaków czasu”, godność oso by ludzkiej oraz odpowiedzialność chrześcijan za historię i kulturę. The publication Gaudium et spes. The Second Vatican Council on the Relationship Between the Church and the World is a comprehensive study of the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, presenting its origins, structure, principal ideas, and significance for contemporary theology and the life of the Church. The authors provide a broad historical and theological context preceding the Second Vatican Council, analysing the evolution of the Christian understanding of the world, culture, and modernity. They reconstruct in detail the process of the document’s formation – from the first schemas and conciliar debates to the final redaction of the text – on the basis of extensive source materials. The book analyses the key themes of Gaudium et spes: the solidarity of the Church with the whole human family, dialogue with the world, the methodology of “reading the signs of the times,” the dignity of the human person, and the responsibility of Christians for history and culture. Particular attention is devoted to the groundbreaking nature of the document, which moves away from a confrontational model of the Church’s relationship with the world and proposes instead a vision of a community present within human experience and capable of dialogue with modernity. The publication also discusses the reception of the constitution in postconciliar Church teaching and its continuing relevance in the face of contemporary social, cultural, and spiritual challenges. As a result, Gaudium et spes emerges as one of the most important documents of the Second Vatican Council – a text that opened new perspectives for thinking about the relationship between the Church and the world and that continues to inspire contemporary theological reflection.
