Abstrakt
W 1935 r. Dodatkowo, zachowany w późniejszych drukach Baumgartena z lat 1499-1501 drzeworyt z ozdobnym inicjałem, zawierający ornament podwójnego krzyża duchackiego, daje podstawy do postawienia hipotezy o jego wykorzystaniu w produkcji zaginionego druku z 1498 r.
In 1935, Aleksander Birkenmajer published a notice that some unknown proofs produced in Konrad Baumgartens' workshop were discovered in the Krasiński Library in Warsaw. It was the indulgence letter ofJan de Steynovia, a member of the Order of the Holy Spirit, published in 1498 in Gdansk. Valuable fragments of the work had been irretrievably lost in the library fire set by Germans. The analysis of the indulgence activity of the Order of the Holy Spirit, particularly of its members located at Gdańsk Pomerania and the State of the Teutonie Order in early 16th centu-ry, casts a new light on the circumstances in which the letter was written. Two other indulgence letters by Jan Steyner, a prior of Ścinawa, including almost unknown print from 1517, allow to relate his person with the issuer of the 1498 letter and to reconstruct the letter content as well as verify the existing incorrect information present in literature on this subject. Additionally, based on a woodcut with a dec-orative initial saved in Baumgarten's later prints from 1499-1501, containing an ornament depicting the Order of the Holy Spirit double cross, a hypothesis may be drawn that it was used in the production of the lost print of 1498.
